Minutes
The minutes of the 2018 Lapwing AGM were signed as read.
Roundup of the Lapwing sailing season
For the Lapwing Championship Duncan's initiative of a Silver and Gold fleet was thought by everyone to be a success. Competitor numbers remained the same as last year but more young were involved this year, encouraged by the new initiative. It was agreed to carry on with the Silver and Gold fleet in the annual Championships and to perhaps extend it to the Aldeburgh Regatta as well.
It was agreed that the iniative had helped avert a decline in boats competing in racing.
Duncan reported that all the problems with sail-making and the measuring of new sails had now been sorted out and resolved.
Lapwing Class Rules
The updated Lapwing Class Rules will be re-written by Matt Lingley, Duncan Mathew and Richard Keane. This has not yet happened and there has been no meeting as yet.
A new set of moulds has been drawn up for anyone wishing to build a new Lapwing and Matt Lingley has them at the boatyard (Demon Yachts).
Old boats will not need to be re-measured and will automatically be given a certificate.
The AYC Sailing Committee will implement the whole process but seemed to have postponed the project at the moment. The Lapwing Class will need to see and approve the new rules but for the moment everything is in draft format.
Any changes will incorporate changes to windows in sails. It was noted that Simon Scammell of Suffolk Sails is now a World Sailing certified RYA measurer.
Safety Boats
The issue of not having two qualified people in a safety boat whilst racing is in progress is recognized by AYC as a problem but nothing has been done yet to rectify the problem.
The Lapwing Class Captain, Duncan Matthew, will bring this up at the next Sailing Committee meeting.
Buoyancy Testing
It was decided by all present to leave things as per agreed at last year's AGM: that it is each boat helm's/crew's responsibility to check their own boat each time they go out sailing.
Prizes
There was discussion as to whether or not the old (still existing) Acheson Trophy should be replaced.
Date for Lapwing AGM 2020
It was decided we should try and meet before the end of August. More folk about and also useful to have met before the following year's sailing calender has been decided upon and set in stone.
AOB
Lapwing 'Knot' is no longer a class boat and available to loan out. Her new owner is Bruce McKiniss.
There was a huge Thank You to Duncan, Lapwing Class Captain, for his initiatives, hard work and enthusiasm, all of which contribute to keeping the Lapwing Class buoyant.
Duncan was elected as Class Captain for a second term.
Proposed by Richard Keane
Seconded by Lucy Vinten-Mattich
The meeting closed at 11.35.
