Minutes
The minutes of the 2019 Lapwing AGM were signed as read.
Matters Arising
Safety boats: The concerns amongst the Lapwing fleet around inadequate safety provision during racing is still ongoing. Duncan had not brought it to the attention of the Sailing Committee during the summer as different measures had been in place. Because of the Covid-19 crisis safety boats had been replaced by patrol boats. However we all felt it imperative that the AYC Sailing Committee address our concerns. Duncan will talk with Robert Mulcahy, head of Sailing Committee.
Lapwing Round-up
There was a delayed start to the season because of Covid-19. As a result there was no Little Garrett cup race and only 5 entrants to the Lapwing Championships. However entries for both Wednesday evening racing and the Regatta were on a parr with 2019.
The Silver Lapwing Race did not happen. It depends on HW at Little Japan but there was agreement that we should change the date to early September when weather is often better than late September.
The re-allocation of an un-used club trophy for the Acheson Trophy was discussed; and also the thought of replacing it with a new barometer.
Lapwing Rules
Richard Keane and Duncan Matthew have reviewed the class rules and are now happy with them. The draft rules will now be put to the Sailing Committee for approval.
AOB
In an effort to boost turnout and communication Duncan has created a WhatsAp group so that those intending to race on a particular day can be in touch with others.
Lucy Vitten-Mattich has responded toBob Kethro, archivisit at Teign Heritage Centre in Teignmouth, who is researching boats designed by Morgan Giles. And Richard Keane has forwarded the request for information on to Peter Wilson.
Ian Robson asked about designated sailmakers for the Lapwings. The answer is there is no longer a requirement for a designated sailmaker. Any sailmaker that is a World Sailing Loft can make the sails. The onus is on the sailmaker to conform to regulations.
We put forward the thought that we would very much like to celebrate and remember Bruce for his enormous contribution to Lapwing sailing over a great many years. It was suggested that we race for a trophy each year in his memory.
Election of Class Captain
Richard proposed that we elect Duncan Matthew for another year. The proposal was seconded by Lizzi Thistlethwayte. Duncan was duly elected and also thanked for all his hard work in keeping the Lapwing fleet going during this difficult Covid infested summer.
Date of next meeting
Not date set for 2021 but it is hoped it will be around midsummer when more folk are about.
Meeting ended 18.10
